North Main Redevelopment Underway in Haysville

Economic Development Focus for City

Haysville Mayor Bruce Armstrong announced the signing of five contracts for the redevelopment of approximately 12 of the 16 acres owned by the City on North Main.  “A lot of hard work has gone into these contracts,” Armstrong said.  “Now that the reopening of Grand is set for mid March, businesses are anxious to be a part of Haysville,” he continued.

Haysville signed contracts or letters of intent for a Senior Housing Development, Retail Shopping Mall, Executive Office Complex, a new CityScape Pizza Hut, and the relocation of the Dollar General store.  “There is only one large lot left for development, Armstrong said.  “The City has been in negotiations with several potential businesses and we are hoping to have that piece under contract very soon,” Armstrong added.  Groundbreaking is already underway for several of the projects and the first set of stakes are in place.

The surge in economic development is not limited to North Main.  The recently completed Peachwood Center on the west side of Haysville at Meridian and Grand is available for tenants.  According to Shelley Palmer, co developer, they are focusing on medical and professional offices but are also talking with a variety of other businesses.  This upscale development is the first of two phases planned for office/retail space.

The recent sale of the form Mid-Kansas Savings and Loan property at the corner of Main and Grand is bringing a new Credit Union to town.  A spokesperson for Aviation Associates Credit Union said that remodeling of the building would begin April 15th with a grand opening scheduled for late May or early June.

“We are also very excited to be working with Ron Meyer to open the Haysville Family Medical Clinic on North Lamar,” Armstrong said.   HFMC will bring a second full-service medical facility to Haysville.  This facility will enhance the Mid Town Office Plaza that recently opened also on North Lamar.

Devastated by the 1999 tornado the redevelopment of North Main has been a particular struggle for the City.  This coupled with the closing of Grand as a through street for eighteen months made matters even worse for attracting potential developers.  “We’ve been actively working with various developers and business owners for several months, but until the reopening of Grand was more definite and the North Main property was no longer needed as a staging area, it was hard to give anyone a definite timeline,” Armstrong said.

According to Armstrong Haysville is averaging over 80 new homes a year and three to four commercial additions.  “Right now, things are booming for Haysville,” Armstrong said.
