ZUMBA (On Going Sessions)

What is Zumba?

Take a bit of samba, a little salsa and a touch of cha-cha and you’ve got Zumba, the ‘new fitness phenomenon’!

GENTLE YOGA (On Going Sessions)

This is a beginning level yoga class to introduce Hatha yoga. Basic postures that include stretching, moving and breathing will help build strength, flexibility and balance.

S.T.E.P.S.

The STEPS program is designed to improve the quality of life for seniors by improving mobility and function-ing which helps maintain an independent lifestyle. The exercise regimen is offered at different levels to accommodate each individual’s specific needs. This class is safe for those who are limited due to arthritis, fibromyalgia or a past injury.

What is circuit training?

A method of physical conditioning in which one moves from one exercise to another, usually in a series of different stations or pieces of equipment.

This circuit training area combines resistance training and high-intensity aerobics to provide a total body workout in as little as 18 minutes!  For a more intense workout, complete the circuit twice.  A new circuit will be developed each month!!

FITNESS ORIENTATIONS

Whether you are a rookie or an all-star in the gym, when starting out at a new facility it is a good idea to make sure you are familiar with all the equipment available to you.  To help ensure a safe workout environment, we recommend that all new members take advantage of a free orientation.  This is a brief look at the facility and the do's and don’ts that go along with it.  You will be shown the equipment available and how to use them.  Orientations are available by appointment only, so stop by the front desk or call to schedule a time that is convenient for you.

BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS

The Fire Department personnel can check blood pressure whenever they are here.  Look for their fire trucks in the parking lot.

BODY COMPOSITION TESTING

No matter the method used to calculate body fat percentage, it is a great tool for monitoring progression for those with the goal of weight loss and body fat reduction.  Body Composition Testing is available by appointment only, so stop by the front desk or call to schedule a time that is convenient for you.

Skin-Fold Caliper

Using the 7-site skin-fold measurement method allows you a more detailed description of your body fat percentage.  A subcutaneous pinch is measured at the following sites:  chest, midaxillary, triceps, subscapular, abdominal, suprailiac and thigh.  All pinches must be taken directly on the skin; therefore, shorts should be worn.

Bioelectrical Impedance Method

This is a non-invasive option for fast, easy results.  By simply holding onto the Body Fat Analyzer hand grips, it uses electrical conductivity to determine your amount of fat tissue.  Muscles and bones have a high water content that conducts electricity easily, whereas fat tissue has little and little electric conductivity.
